Husk Going Green in 2008
Here are some of the ways Husk are going to implement sustainable business practice in 2008:
Energy Efficiency >> Husk uses energy-saver light bulbs where-
ever we can. We’re also taking steps to
reduce our overall energy use by turning
lights/equipment off when we’re out of the studio and
turning machines off overnight. we always
sleep in the dark and could very possibly introduce a
pedal-powered carrot juice printer very soon.
Recyclers Make Better Lovers >> We huskies compost our natural food waste,
recycle our scrap paper, refill our glass
water bottles, use old mags for wrapping
paper, use reusable shopping bags and try to
reduce our overall plastic and waste output. We’re ‘going electronic‘ so we can save
even more paper. We’re also growing our
armpit hair.
Keepin’ it in Da Hood >> Huskies all live within 10km of the studio,
doing our bit to ease Auckland’s traffic
congestion. We walk to work, the post office,
the bank and the T.A.B. We email artwork
instead of using couriers and prefer local
suppliers. We buy yummy things from Lou’s
mum instead of imports from a supermarket
shelf. We really dig the avondale markets.
Redesigning Design >> We want our design to have a lower
environmental impact. We are going to specify more vege inks,
recycled papers and eco printers. We’ll keep proofing via PDF. We’ll
ask our printers for a similar committment. And yeah...we might even get some better
designers in here too ha.
Nature Nurtures >> Husk’s committment to change requires
space, flexibility and creativity and we often
get outdoors exactly for that.From
inspiration days to yoga; swinging in the
hammock to long Husk picnics at the park,
we’re down with hangin’ out in the green
stuff and catching our creative breath.
(By ‘green stuff‘ we mean trees - not those other, smaller, somewhat
illegal yet apparently medicinal, green-coloured plants).
Organic, GE-free and Fair Trade >> We huskies love our food. We eat local and
organic as often as we can (read: we just eat as often
as we can). We endorse GE-free and fair trade
standards and like to buy products that don’t
harm the environment...or us for that matter.
We even managed to find coffee that is locally produced, organic, fair
trade and shade-grown! Mother earth (whoever
she is) might even approve.
If you have any more ideas about what Husk could do to make our business more sustainable, we would love to hear them!
Reduce, reuse, recycle :)
