Husk visited a new local eatery - Honey Bones, a small cafe tucked in the Grey Lynn side of town, thanks to some decent props from Denizen. We approve of the minimal interior featuring steel framework and a trendy wooden menu board filled with more than your average brunch breakfast and lunch. From 'Cured Salmon' with whipped feta, and pistou to 'Beef Cheek Croquettes', this menu is no short of inviting. The range of cold drinks went down a treat. We were especially ecstatic about the range of smoothies, with those 'hipster' ingredients such as kale, cacao and chia seeds. We're looking forward to bringing the rest of the huskies along for the next round.
Innie had the Buckwheat Porridge with black doris plum, berries, chia and coconut milk. She said "They make healthy food taste unhealthy. Which is a win in my books!"
Katie had the Zesty Zucchini Fritters with mint and pickled cucumber, lime labneh, poached egg and bacon. She said "Love the ambience! Nice for a sunny Saturday brunch."
Rebecca had the Smashed Peas with Poached Eggs and a Citron Green. She said "The food was very flavourful and had nice presentation. Felt very healthy."
Bri had the Ricotta Pancake (poached fruits, yoghurt and date syrup, hazelnut crumble) and a West Lynn Smoothie (cacao, banana, date, coconut, almond). She said "Loved the minimalist style decor. Awesome smoothie. The food was great for the first half, but started to taste repetitive for the second half, almost sickening as the pancake was so dense. Really full afterwards and could not finish it."
