Slow Lane

slowlane

On our repeat visit to Slow Lane Café in Ellerslie we were eager to try out their new menu, always on the search for that ‘something special’. The place continues to impress with its big, open space, creating a welcoming and relaxed atmosphere and paired with the friendly and helpful staff, Slow Lane always seems full and humming with activity.

The menu offers a great variety, ranging from brunch staples like granola, smashed avo, and eggs bene to more adventurous options like kimchi fried rice, chirashi bowl and crayfish bisque breakfast noodles. Whether you’re in the mood for sweet or savoury, there’s plenty to choose from, including delicious treats from their usually well-stocked cabinet. A special highlight is their playful coffee art—it’s always fun to see the creative and quirky designs adorning your latte. The baristas clearly love this part of their craft, serving these masterpieces with beaming smiles.

Total spend – 5 people – $175.50

Louise had kimchi rice with egg. She said, “My favourite things about Slow Lane today: 1/ my bestie Heather was with us 2/ the forest green of their staff tees and 3/ how effortlessly they could seat 5 walk-ins. The rest didn’t float my boat unfortunately – we travelled some distance for the new menu but the Kimchi rice, though flavoursome, was unfortunately too heavy on the oil for me.”

Mel had kimchi rice with egg. She said, “Loved the kimchi rice – always a fave for me! The atmosphere was a little lacking this time round, but it was a cold and windy day so it is hard to keep a big space like this all cosy and warm lol!”

Sam had satay chicken and drank a flat white. He said, “Really enjoyed lunch, a great cafe, really nice inside and friendly staff. The coffees are also the best, coffee art was a treat.”

Sarah had breakfast noodles. She said, “It was nice to try the new menu that I have seen all over insta! Their coffee art was amazing. The breakfast noodles were so so – they needed some more flavour. Good vibes and nice staff.”
