Fresh out of the amazing Creative Mornings event, we Huskies were so intrigued by the collaborative space of Lot 23 we decided to go for lunchtoo — boasting an art gallery, film and photography studio, collaborative work spaces and a café, this seems to be a great hub for everything. Lot 23 is tucked away inside a street inside a street (#street-ception), so it's not a place you can easily stumble across — but we can tell you it's well worth the navigating. Haunted by devoted Brazil coffee fans, its lever expresso machine lends a steam-punk vibe that utterly destroyed our minds - we don't care where, or how much, we want one! Their food, delicately plated, received contrasting views from the team — one thing we DID agree on though: the manager really needs to crack a smile. PS: we grabbed the new 'Feel Good' ice pops on the way back and their lovely packaging design and photography really did themselves justice. Salted Caramel & Apple… nuff said.
Louise had the lamb koftas on baba ganoush special and drank an iced mocha. She said 'loved the space, particularly the outdoor area. Unfortunately the lady serving us (possibly the owner) was a bit dark and cool – fortunately the smiley barista made up for it. The lamb kofta was meant to come with roasted beetroot (completely missing) and minted yoghurt (1/2 a tsp). The remains of the dish were tasty but sadly not what it said on the box.'
Innie had the asian noodle salad and drank a latte. She said 'felt like a true creative – love the food love the vibe.'
Katie had the pulled pork & polenta with avocado salsa & lime and drank Elliotts golden kiwi "reviver". She said 'pretty happy with the mexican flavours, though I am not sure that avocado's a 'salsa' & it's a whole, unsliced chunk; a beautiful, glorious chunk though.'
Mel had the pulled pork & polenta with avocado salsa & lime and drank a grapefruit juice. She said 'I liked the feel of the place, music was a tad loud, or maybe I'm just getting too old! The food was good but not filling enough for me and it just lacked a bit of the wow factor.'
Joe had the lamb kofta and drank a white grapefruit juice. He said 'waitstaff were great but manager who served us was telling off staff in public and didn't smile. Some great flavours in there, but Kofta was notable over salted, the lamb kofta ordered didn't include roast beetroot listed on menu.'
Annie had the avocado ugly bagel and Dan's special noodle salad and drank a cola. She said 'Great flavours, nice and simple.'
