SEABREEZE

instagram.com/seabreeze.cafe

For many the name ‘Seabreeze’ evokes the best of summer; ocean views and warm summer sun mediated by a cooling breeze. With views overlooking the Waitemata, Seabreeze is indeed true to its namesake and, on the warm Friday afternoon of our Husk visit, those breezes were doing their job splendidly. This corner joint is a relatively new arrival in the Westmere food scene, and was co-founded by Lou’s previous business partner (from the days of the Sneak Design Collective), Brendan Vucich. With the potential relational awkwardness that a poor review might create, we were relieved to find the menu both strong and creative.

A personal favourite was the green eggs – a delicious brunch-come-lunch salad option with perfect accompanying green sauce. The full experience suggested thoughtful, creative consideration – from the menu, to the plating, crockery and furniture. Chef Angus Mclean’s contemporary and original dishes still manage to stand out in what is already a competitive Auckland café scene. It was hard for us Huskies to eventually tear ourselves away from our reserved outdoor table at what is an excellent summer café. Go boys go!

Louise had the Chicken salad. She said “Super stoked with our table in the sun and great service by Brendan, Brodie and the team. The café was beautiful, heaving and divinely located. All around a good time. Congrats guys on a mint opening!”

Innie had the Corn Fritter and a coffee. She said “Oh my! What a great flavour – definitely going back!”

Mel had the Blueberry Pancakes with Bacon and a Cacao smoothie.

Joe had the Green eggs and the Tropical smoothie. He said “Great new café, one of my favourites from 2016.”
