Good Boy Billy
Our Husk crew popped into Good Boy Billy for lunch and were immediately won over by the genuinely warm, people-first service. It’s one of those spots where the smiles are real, the vibe is easy and you instantly feel like a welcomed regular. Between us, we sampled a few favourites – the creamy mushrooms with poached eggs and hash browns and the open-face omelette that was simple, tasty and surprisingly addictive. The coffees were great all round, and the tiny shortbread treat that comes with each one? A small but powerful reason to return.
The café itself has a great neighbourhood buzz, light-filled, friendly and humming, just enough to feel alive without being hectic. Good Boy Billy absolutely nails the “cute but capable” vibe you see on their Instagram and we left feeling well-fed, well-caffeinated and a little bit charmed. A very good boy indeed.
Total spend – 4 people – $99.00
Louise had cream mushrooms, poached eggs on hash browns. She said, “Very cute, handy and excellent FOH experience made this an absolute pleasure. Unsure about the supermarket triangle hash brown as a cafe offering, but they were crisped beautifully so, I guess that helped?”
Mel had cream mushrooms, poached eggs on hash browns and drank a decaf flat white. She said, “This little place has such a lovely vibe, the friendly staff made it for me! They went out of their way to make sure our visit was a good one, the little short bread morsel with the coffees, such a great idea and left me wanting more of them, ha!”
Sarah had the Open Trail (open face omelette). She said, “Incredible service, the kind that feels genuinely warm and naturally hospitable. I had the omelette, which was simple but super tasty. The little melting moment that comes with each coffee is such a delightful touch. Great vibes in the café too: a nice level of busyness and chatter, plenty of natural light, and surprisingly spacious.”
Sam had the crunch local and drank a mocha. He said, “Super nice spot and really nice staff.”
