Tinfeny’s
Lunch at Tinfeny’s was one of those easy wins where you sit down, order a bunch of dishes and suddenly everyone is quietly nodding like “Yep, this was a good call.” The satay skewers didn’t last long enough for any polite sharing rules and the fresh spring rolls made us feel like we were balancing out the weekend’s choices. The cashew nut stir fry was hands down the table favourite and the green curry had that comforting, just-right heat that makes you want to keep going even when you’re definitely full. The pad thai was the only one that played a bit shy on flavour, but hey, every group has an introvert.
The team were super lovely and the place had that relaxed, no stress kind of vibe, even if it was a bit too quiet for peak Ponsonby energy. You can tell it would come alive on a busier day. Loads of classic Thai dishes, plenty of flavour and the sort of spot you might wander into without expecting much and leave thinking “Actually, that was pretty darn good”. We would happily head back for another round of that cashew stir fry… maybe two, because sharing is clearly not our strongest skill.
Total spend – 4 people – $130.50
Shared dishes: Satay chicken skewers, fresh prawn/vege spring rolls, cashew nut stir fry, pad thai, green curry and rice
Louise had a bit of everything. She said, “Easy to get a seat (maybe too easy?) but lovely service and yum food. Everything felt fresh, healthy and pretty delicious – favourite was the green curry for sure but, then again, I am always a sucker for one.”
Mel had a bit of everything and drank a ginger beer. She said, “Nice little spot, most of the dishes hit the spot, just the Pad Thai that was somewhat lacking in flavour. But I’d go back just for the cashew nut stir fry!”
Sam had a bit of everything. He said, “Yum spot I would never go myself but the food was really good and had nice flavours.”
Sarah had a bit of everything. She said, “It was a very quiet Monday when we visited this spot and I imagine it’s great when there is a buzz! Lots of classic dish options for those who like the authentic style.”
