KISS KISS

The Auckland epic food scene has been slowly branching out in their flavour profiles, serving up not just the typical eggs bene and pancakes, but exotic international flavours like korean gochujang and vietnamese pho (that’s “fuh” to those who want the right lingo). The Huskies took to a Thai-fusion café in Balmoral, and after hearing that the owners also produced Metro stars the L’Oeuf café and Chinoiserie, it was hard to not have high expectations. We were greeted by a grinning waitress, long communal tables, pink neon lights and palm trees aplenty. All of us (except for Emilie) were woo’d by the Scotch Eggs (wrapped in free-range chicken mince and kaffir lime) and we were not disappointed. The running yolk served with the sourdough and coriander pesto was a slam to the senses – you won’t find anything else like it. The staff also showed us the cocktails menu, cleverly encased in bright-blue Viewmasters — have a peek even if you’re not ordering any, it’s holds a good laugh or two inside. Give us more, Kisskiss!

Louise had the free range chicken & kaffir lime scotch egg, pickled red cabbage, spiced pumpkin puree & a coriander pesto on sourdough. She said “Didn’t expect the chicken to be an asian scotch egg! Not quite sure how to rate the whole experience. Decidedly undecided. Dig the logo though.”

Innie had the free range chicken & kaffir lime scotch egg, pickled red cabbage, spiced pumpkin puree & a coriander pesto on sourdough and a single shot flat white. She said “Nice and nice- and NICE.”

Katie had the free range chicken & kaffir lime scotch egg, pickled red cabbage, spiced pumpkin puree & a coriander pesto on sourdough and a hot chocolate. She said “Such intense flavour, creative combination too! Will definitely be back to try the night menu (read: the cocktails).”

Mel had the free range chicken & kaffir lime scotch egg, pickled red cabbage, spiced pumpkin puree & a coriander pesto on sourdough and a ginger and lemon tea. She said “What a cool place. Yummo flavours in my dish and lots of other choices I would love to try out in the future.”

Joe had the free range chicken & kaffir lime scotch egg, pickled red cabbage, spiced pumpkin puree & a coriander pesto on sourdough and a mate drink. He said “One of the most exciting new suburban haunts in Auckland.”

Emilie had the crispy rice and homemade sausage salad and a ginger and lemon tea. She said “Will come again for cocktails at dinner time 🙂 “

Rikki had the free range chicken & kaffir lime scotch egg, pickled red cabbage, spiced pumpkin puree & a coriander pesto on sourdough and a whole coconut. She said “Yum, very tasty and different, enjoyed it.”
