Newbie

newbie

As you step into the Mercury building at the far end of Newmarket, you’re greeted by the inviting atrium-style atmosphere of Newbie Cafe. The space is alive with vibrant and slightly eccentric decor, walls adorned in playful, nature-inspired patterns. One can’t miss the huge display of dried flowers hanging across the back wall of the front counter, adding a whimsical touch to the ambiance. It’s like stepping into a world of fun right in the heart of a more serious, business-oriented workspace—a collision of colour with corporate grey.

Newbie Cafe is renowned for its classic brunch staples with added twists to keep things interesting. Although not boasting a massive menu, there was enough variety for everyone to find something to satisfy their lunchtime hunger. Additionally, they offer a great cabinet selection for those looking for a quick bite or some sweets to take away. It’s the kind of place where you can grab a delicious meal and enjoy the unique atmosphere, whether you’re in a hurry or looking to linger a little longer.

 Total spend – 5 people – $158.20

Louise had shakshuka eggs and sausage. She said, “What is it about either restaurants in hotels or cafes in office buildings that somehow make them feel more pedestrian than destination? Newbie had that feeling to me – nothing special but could also be handy if you work nearby. There was much service confusion while playing ‘find the sausage’ (and nope, an actual banger was missing from my meal)! Muddled experience aside, it was super nice to have two of my besties at the table today. Now THAT was a highlight.”

Mel had avocado on sourdough and drank a beetroot, ginger and carrot juice. She said, “The flavours were good, service was ok – they did seem a little unsure of a few things but it didn’t impact the orders.  For a cafe inside a massive corporate building like this, they do really well.  The splash of colour and great cabinet food on offer would be a real asset to those working in the area.”

Sam had salmon, avocado and cream cheese bagel and drank a cold pressed orange juice. He said, “The bagel came as basically a deconstructed meal, salmon on the side with a scoop of cream cheese and a avo with a toasted bagel. It would have been better for me if it came made up already  (think goodness gracious)  so I feel they missed the mark there. But it was nice nonetheless. Really nice new cafe, super open and pretty roomy.”

Sarah had scrambled eggs on sourdough and drank a mango kombucha. She said, “This spot is good if you are in the area as a staple cafe. Cabinet had some lovely looking things. The service was at some points confusing but I would maybe put this down to some new staff. The vibes were light, bright and colourful. My eggs were simple and done well.”
