Slow Lane Cafe

slowlane.nz

Well first up, Slow Lane is far from slow – this cafe is located on the (very busy) Great South Road in Greenlane, surrounded by office blocks and a multitude of big-name businesses, and naturally, a ‘mare for casual visitor parking.

For the duration of our visit, Slow Lane was a fast lane of customers, either searching for a table to dine in or popping in to sample the very inviting array of cabinet food.  The cafe’s  ethos is ‘to take things slow’ – however, it didn’t really have that feel while we were there. We’d call it more vibrant and slightly chaotic!

The big floor space did help though, affording us plenty of room to sit back and enjoy the surrounding decor, an interesting mix of concrete walls and floors, dark wooden furnishings and plastic flora (we get it but nah), all in appealing neutral tones. Staff were friendly, helpful with recommendations and adapted easily to our menu changes – we’re a needy bunch! We had a tasty selection of meals, with the rosti a true crowd favourite and the afternoon sweets treats also hitting the spot. Great little place, something a little more upbeat for the worker bees in the area.

Mel had the Smashed Avo on sourdough and drank a Wellbeing Smoothie. She said “The cafe had a mix vibe of urban cool with delicate trendy feel.  My avo smash was nice however the sourdough was a little too thick so a bit tricky to cut through – my smoothie was really good though.  The staff were friendly, happy to help with suggestions and slight adjustments to our orders from the menu – love adaptable staff!”

Sam had the Salmon Benedict and drank a mocha. He said “Can’t go wrong with a Benedict and the rostis are so good.”

Sarah had the Creamy Mushrooms on Rosti and drank an Almighty Blood Orange sparkling water. She said “This spot seems like a bit of a business hub so I was unsure at first but actually overall enjoyed it. Nice, spacious interior, good, friendly service and nice vibes. The creamy mushrooms were yum and flavourful, rosti was delish.”

Louise had the Creamy Mushrooms on Potato Rosti and drank an Ice Americano. She said “Cafe rather full, noisy and hard to park. Enjoy the industrial, concrete vibe but not the fake plants – um, nope. Food excellent though. Am I having a harsh day or what?”
