Bodrum Market

bodrum-market

If Turkish is what you’re after then don’t go any further than Bodrum Market, perfectly located inside the Westfield Newmarket Shopping Centre, just the spot for delicious food and coffee. They claim to take inspiration from Istanbul’s Grand Bazaar and the streets of Bodrum City, with the goal to ‘transport you to the Mediterranean and beyond’. And we think they do a really great job! Bodrum felt authentically Turkish, from the beautiful interior filled with mosaics, signature blues and whites to the gorgeous copper, bronze and silver decorations across the servery. They offer both inside restaurant seating and outside atrium-style options – we were spoilt for choice and felt very happy to pull up a pew outside this time round.

Mediterranean food really is just so darn good, and Bodrum did not disappoint. With an extensive array of tasty options perfect for those who love to share (AND those who would rather scarf it all themselves), the menu boasted a mix of their cultural classics. We enjoyed freshly-made breads and dips, meaty dishes with exotic sauce, and Turkish coffee that was quite the afternoon treat for those who don’t mind a little (or large) afternoon caffeine hit!  The portion sizes were generous, service was friendly and speedy, and even though we were in one of Auckland’s busiest shopping malls, you would not know it. We felt like we were in our own little piece of the ‘Med’ … dreams are free and that day we were living it!

Total spend – 4 people – $151.70

Louise had Jordanian lamb doner. She said, “I think Bodrum is and always will be a stalwart of middle eastern dining. Hummus was delish, wrap was unusual and lamb was tender and generous but also supremely rich. If the plate had some tzatziki vibes to offset the richness of the meat and maybe some Turkish bread instead of the wrap, this would’ve had a 5/5 from me.”

Mel had harissa prawns and drank a Turkish coffee. She said, “What a great spot!  Loved the atmosphere, the food and the coffee. A bit of a Turkish treasure tucked away up on the top floor of the Westfield Shopping Centre. My harissa prawns were very flavoursome and there were just enough prawns to be satisfying.  And the coffee wasn’t too strong, just watch the last mouthful as this can be grainy and thick ;)”

Sam had Jordanian lamb doner and drank a Turkish coffee. He said, “One of my favourites in a long time. I loved the whole experience of the Turkish coffee and the food was super yum. Really good size portions and very moreish.”

Sarah had a fattoush salad with chicken. She said, “I like Bodrum cause you always know it will deliver on flavour and today was no different. Well cooked meat, a yummy salad dressing and nice outdoor vibes. I was happy.”
