Canton Cafe
Nearing the end of our Kingsland crawl, the Huskies ventured into the popular and well know ‘Canton’. This place is not known for it’s pretty decor or vibing atmosphere, but more for the full flavoured dishes and generous portion sizes! Canton knows how to bang out the orders fast due to their finely-tuned skills and ability to deal with many orders all at once. These guys are equally well known for their zappy takeaways too which means they are always busy. The service here is friendly and polite, and special touches like a fresh apple palette cleanse compliments of the house don’t go unnoticed.
As always the Huskies went in with hungry bellies and big eyes and ordered way too much for the four of us. The dishes arrived at different times, so we would just get started loading up when another delicious plate arrived, sizzling hot and ready to be demolished – so nice on a wet and wintery day. The Special Black Chilli Prawns are a long time fav of Lou, so they HAD to be on the list – have fun navigating the chilli on these babies, they are wonderfully hot! We did our best to finish everything but were happily defeated and rolled out of there with grins wrapped around our doggy bags. Thanks Canton.

Louise had a bit of everything and drank green tea. She said, “Randomly, this Husk lunch, I was both cold and starving, and Canton was just the ticket. Not only were we tucked in a cosy corner, their super prompt delivery of piping hot yums was a welcome treat. Happiness is their Special Black Chilli Prawns – I shall eat them ‘till I die.”
Mel had a bit of everything and drank green tea. She said, “I do love places that look pretty and have plenty of ambience, unfortunately this is not one of them. BUT the food and awesome, solid flavours totally make up for it! The speedy service and huge volume of food makes you feel like you’re getting good value for money. I’ll be ordering again from their takeaway options.”
Sam had a bit of everything. He said, “Canton Cafe is one of Auckland’s long time go-to spots for a BYO and a good time. The interior is nothing special and very outdated, it’s somewhere you would go for good simple food and good size portions. Left super full and not feeling amazing haha.”
Sarah had a bit of everything. She said, “It’s a great spot if you need to feed a big group of hungry people. And it never fails to satisfy. If you need fresh vegetables this is probably not the one for you.”
