That Sando Guy

that sando guy

Driving to your local liquor store’s carpark is not generally where you would expect to find a gem of a food truck but That Sando Guy knows how to deliver on flavour. The car park has a bit of an abandoned, blustery vibe but it works if you are dropping in to pick up a hearty sando or, even better, pay someone else to pick it up for you.

While ambience is not high on the priority list here, there is definitely a lot of effort gone into the truck itself and how it operates. They work efficiently and cleanly, which is satisfying to watch. A small space demands order and they do it well. The service is super friendly and attentive too and Vee and Irene are passionate about good fast food done well.

The menu has some great options from sandos and burgers to donburi and some fab-looking sides. All of the chicken we tried was amazingly cooked, juicy, beautifully fried and full of flavour. We were a bit taken aback by the heat of the Korean Fried Chicken, so watch out for that, but it takes it to the next level flavour-wise.
If you are in the Mt Albert area and craving something not on the keto approved list this is a great spot to drop in to.

Total spend – 3 people – $57.50

Louise had half a teriyaki chicken sando and half a Korean fried chicken sando. She said, “Love Vee and Irene and are stoked for the super cool thing they have built. Chicken is crispy on the outside and tender on the inside; portion sizes are bang on and prices just right; smiles, chatter and energy are in plentiful supply. The only possible improvement would be the location – the backend of a carpark next to some portaloos ain’t high on the vibes, but I imagine at night with the festoons, it’s quite a different experience.”

Sam had KFC Donburi. He said, “The chicken was cooked super well, there wasn’t much else going on with the Donburi, it was just chicken on rice with a little bit of lettuce and one slice of tomato. Spicy too.”

Sarah had Korean fried chicken sando, teriyaki chicken sando. She said, “The Korean fried chicken was super yum, great spice level. I didn’t love that teriyaki chicken so much but that’s just me. The service was friendly and they did things super efficiently.”
