HOMESTEAD CAFE
Down the end of a long, tree-lined driveway in Hillsborough lies Homestead, the encore establishment of Ceremony founders Connor, Sam and Charles. The Huskies visited Homestead with a lucky +1 on a sunny, bluebird winter day. Upon arriving the wolfpack navigated their way to the café through the Wallace Arts Centre gallery, which shares the Pah Homestead building where Homestead is based. The cafe is quintessential hipster – a mix of Scandinavian-ish modern furniture, sans-serif type, splashes of red and a stunning contemporary menu. Seated outside, we still baked in the winter’s sun. The service – courtesy of staffer Jordan – was attentive, prompt and very knowledgable. The food was amongst the strongest in the Auckland café scene, original combinations combined with stunning plating. On fine days Homestead even offers picnic blankets for punters relax on the grounds of the estate. Needless to say, a great reason to return.
Innie had the beetroot and feta brushetta with latte. She said “I will be back!”
Katie had the lamb shoulder with tomato puree and cannelloni beans. She said “An epic addition to a heritage location! You would probably need to order sides for this one though.”
Mel had the beetroot and feta brushetta with a share of the side dishes of pear & rocket salad and crunchy potatoes and a decafe latte. She said “It was beautiful, character filled, helped along buy the most amazingly sunny and hot day given we are 3 days into winter! There were a few unexpected rosy cheeks by the end! The food was amazingly flavoursome, portions were good but I was glad I had a side dish with the main. The experience was enhanced by our guest Carl from Youth Horizons joining us, his order of omelette with a side of bacon (he kindly shared a bite with me) was amazing and he said “the key to the ‘yum’ factor was the goats cheese centre and spring onion infused olive oil drizzled over!” Good times had by all :)”
Joe had the moroccan chicken and a lemmy lemon drink. He said “Great location, excellent and knowledgeable service (cheers Jordan) and great food. Definitely recommended.”
Emilie had the salmon gravlax and a spicy chai latte. She said “Very spacious venue. Romantic! Definitely will visit again!”
Rikki had the beetroot salmon and a decafe flat white. She said “It was a lovely venue, I will go back again myself sometime.”
