koo koo

kookoo.co.nz

A new local for the Dominion Road food scene is always a good thing and Koo Koo felt like something special, offering  authentic and delicious Korean cuisine.

The interior was warm and inviting with some cool little nooks tucked down the side (great for a date night we think 😉 – the sweet friendliness of the staff was palpable from the moment we walked in.

This Friday lunch was a bit quiet with only a couple of other diners – however, this had its advantages as we had fabulous service and didn’t have to wait long for the food to arrive!  We did the right thing by our mums and ordered some greens  (and did pretty well to get some freshness in the flavour mix) – but let’s be real, we were really here for the fried goodness!  The half Korean-style chicken (you can go a whole if you are super hungas) was tender and bang on for a tasty Friday treat. Pairing this with kimchi fried rice, served on a grill plate for extra crisp, was delicious perfection. Totally recommend a visit!

Total spend – 3 people – $81.20

Louise had a bit of everything. She said “Really enjoyed the fit out, quite enjoyed the chicken and was fascinated by the mozzarella in the kimchi rice, but not life-changing enough for me to return really.”

Mel had a bit of everything. She said, “The place felt a little lonely given there was only one other table of peeps eating at the time we were there.  But it was relaxing, friendly and the flavours were quite lovely.  My fave was the Kimchi fried rice, it packed just the right amount of heat and was slightly creamy – I think they had cheese in there, what!”

Sarah had a bit of everything and drank a grapefruit soda. She said, “It’s always nice to try a brand new spot. We really enjoyed the decor and the service was lovely. The flavours were good. I especially enjoyed the fried chicken, it was light and tasty, and the bibim noodles hit the spot.”
