Summer is just around the corner and the huskies are SHREDDING for the beach (not really, just Jeffrey) and so something ‘nom’ but virtuous was in order. Found this little gem in Mt Roskill and we were instantly greeted by sunshine smiles, sunshine yellow lampshades and legit sunshine streaming from the windows in this tiny but sweet eatery.
We settled our large group at the communal table and made our (very) customised orders with the (very) helpful waitress. The place serves Poke Bowls – proteins include Salmon, Yellow Fin Tuna, Caramel Chicken, Bulgalgi Beef and Tofu, and the salad/rice base is sprinkled with a generous helping of furikake (a japanese seasoning). Makes the dish super tasty – though in retrospect they probably should have warned vegetarians on the printed menu, as it has egg and dried fish products inside. The most-aesthetic-drink-award had to go to the blueberry mocktail – flaunting it with a strategically placed cinnamon stick and mint sprigs.
Honolulu Lulu is a decent place to check out this summer, and also a good tongue-twister at a party. Try saying it very fast 5 times!
Louise had the Yellow Fin Tuna Poke Bowl with fresh yellow fin tuna, mango, edamame beans, corn, seaweed, carrot, cabbage and poke sauce (no rice or mango). She drank a Miso Soup. She said, “Loved the food, excellent communication from the waitress and very accommodating of all our meal preferences. Unfortunately, the only downer was the long wait for food but that was probably because they were very accommodating of all our meal preferences :).”
Katie had the Mt Cook Alpine Salmon Poke Bowl with New Zealand fresh salmon, mango, edamame beans, corn, seaweed, carrot, cabbage and wasabi dressing (no rice). She drank an Old School Iced Coffee. She said, “Not much to fault other than the slightly longer wait than expected, staff were super friendly and helpful! Super full, that iced coffee is no joke.”
Mel had the Mt Cook Alpine Salmon Poke Bowl with New Zealand fresh salmon, mango, edamame beans, corn, seaweed, carrot, cabbage and poke sauce on rice. She drank a Miso Soup. She said, “What a fun and healthy place to eat lunch! Loved the fresh and nutritious flavours of the poke bowl, the tuna was awesome and the overall combinations the bowl was fab. So good to have somewhere to eat that you walk away satisfied but not stuffed! I will very happily eat here again or order their food through Uber Eats in the future. Loving it!”
Bri had the Tofu Poke Bowl with tofu, mango, edamame beans, corn, seaweed, carrot, cabbage and poke sauce on rice. She drank a Miso Soup. She said, “Great value, very accommodating with our orders and lovely customer service. Atmosphere was modern and relaxing.”
