MORNINGCIDER & BO’S DUMPLINGS

https://www.facebook.com/pages/category/Real-Estate/Morningside-Precinct-313736572726370/

Morningside’s new development over the road has given everyone has Husk varying levels of PTSD with their relentless symphonies of construction sounds. And finally after 9 months they’ve replaced the ambience of the place with another sort of hum – a happy, peoply one – and we are loving the good vibes. The Kind Eatery and the Morningside Tavern are the stalwarts of the place but squeezed in between is a cool laneway of “hole in the wall” eateries and a handful of tables lining the cosy space. Nothing speaks of summer more than tangy, icy-cold ciders by Morningcider (best intended pun in history we reckon) and juicy, luscious dumplings from Bo’s with memorable pieces of wall-art to boot. We enjoyed two tasting flights from NZ’s first cidery – do try the mango & turmeric one – and the 4:30 is bound to please any solid cider lover. As for Bo’s menu — the dumpling wrappers are much more substantial than some of the translucent varieties, hallmarks of their northern chinese influence, and you can choose to have them steamed or pan-fried (crispy all the way, we say) — at 10 bucks for 6 pieces, it’s pretty dang worth it. Needless to say, there is now a well worn path on the 30 second walk from our door to theirs.

Here’s what we tried on the 2 sets of tasting flights (they come in a set of 5):
Morningcider 6PM
Morningcider 4:30
Apple IPA
Granny Smith
Mango & Tumeric
Funked up
Kings
Moutere
Grandpa’s Armchair
Serious Frenchie

And here’s what we shared from Bo’s:
Juicy Pork
Vegan
Chive, Egg & Prawn
Chicken & Mushroom
Pork & Coriander
Pork, Chive, Egg & Prawn
Vegetarian Shijin Salad
Spicy Beef Side Dish

Louise said “I might be biased but homemade dumplings and crisp apple cider in the summer sun with my fave huskies made this one of my fave husk lunches ever. #morningsideforlife”

Katie said “Personally prefer a thinner dumpling wrapper but I guess it’s more bang for your buck ‘cause you really fill up with these! Awesome summer vibes in the sunny alley with some fruity, tangy ciders :D. If you’re coming in a group come in the off-peak time, seating’s cosy as here!”

Mel said “The dumplings were awesome, the cold side dishes were refreshing and full of flavour (so good in fact that I took friends the next day to sample some more!) And the ciders… well I’m very happy I live is this neighbourhood, there will be many summer nights I’ll heading down to hang out and enjoy the cool atmosphere and refreshing drink options. Yay for Morningside!”

Bri said “The dumplings were a generous size which was great, and service is fast despite being so busy. Loved how we could trying all 10 ciders – will definitely be back to Morningcider to do that again. Loved the art of both places – cool vibes!”

Jeffrey said “Food is nice, need more seating.”

Phil said “Dumplings were fun messy goodness. So tasty! Loved trying the range of tasty ciders.”
