the fridge - mar 2012
The Fridge Cafe and Deli is located in Kingsland, only 2 minutes drive from the studio, and today's visit was made even more treatsy by a ride in a Kombi van from the wonderful Lyndon and Debz at Kiwi Kombis. Blair took special care to take the corners with enough speed to send the back-bench passengers flying, much to Reuben's glee.
The Fridge, as usual, did not fail to disappoint. The service was snappy, friendly and flexible - owner Ann Maree Rowe herself directed the kitchen to whip up an off-the-menu 'cheese on ciabatta toastie' for our pint-sized Huskie, and didn't bat an eyelid at our unusual request. Food was great, Karajoz coffee served nice, hot and with a chocolate fish to the side which turned out to be in high demand.
We did arrive nearly 2 hours later than normal (thanks to a productive meeting with Peter Cox harhar) and, though the food cabinet stocks of wraps and salads were starting to wane, the pie cabinet was being restocked with fresh hotties and the kitchen was still in full force. The cafe was pumping even after the lunch rush, with famous people to boot.
Of course we will go back. It's part of our DNA. Work in Kingsland? Love the Fridge. Can't do one without the other.
had the world-famous-in-NZ mince'n'mozarella pie and a mocha. She said 'The pie was perfect - hot, tasty, lots of cheese and straight out of the oven. Didn't seem to last long enough though, and neither did my coffee.'
had the Beef Lasagne with a side Cajun Chicken Salad (read: meatfest) and a Ti Tonics Blueberry White tea. She said 'No matter what you had...no matter how good your food was...you always end up thinking "I should've gone for the pie.
How good was it?
